Nutrition: NGO Misión Huascarán reduced anemia rates from 44% to 3% in children in Peru
In order to curb the lack of development and growth in children in the mountains of Huaraz and prioritize health and education, the NGO Misión Huascarán, through its nutrition program, focused on implementing tools to lower the rate of anemia from 44% to 3% in the area.
Thanks to the constant follow-up and monitoring of nutrition professionals from Misión Huascarán, which since 2019 have been carrying out deworming campaigns, timely drug treatments, nutrient rich food donations, workshops and training for families on proper nutrition, the following results could be achieved:
- 3,000 fish beneficiaries.
- 600 milk recipients.
- 68 children benefited from a daily ration of eggs.
- 575 beneficiaries of a daily ration of iron-rich bread.
- 30 family organic vegetable gardens.
- 6 school organic vegetable gardens.
- 50 beneficiary mothers of demonstration sessions.
- 220 students benefited from the “Safe Water Consumption” Workshop.
- 6 schools with water purifying filter installed.
- 220 beneficiary students were made of surgical steel.
To date, Misión Huascarán continues to implement nutritional campaigns with the purpose of reducing the anemia rate to 0%.
